I didn’t find my friends; the Good Lord gave them to me
-ralph waldo emerson
I’ve had the hardest time finding the right words to create an introduction to help me accurately describe how lucky I am to have the chance to create relationships with genuinely good, inspiring people.
My first “to be thankful and to be inspired” post is all about my dear, sweet friend Mandy. When I say she’s a complete God-send, I mean to say that I’ve prayed for friends like her: uplifting, encouraging, supportive, driven and a leader by example. When I first thought about resurrecting my blog which I had not touched since 2014, Mandy was one of the four friends whom I had asked their opinion on whether or not I should re-start this passion project. She’s the perfect example of a girl boss as she’s the beauty and mastermind behind Salt & Shore; She’s the exact embodiment of the “community over competition” term I frequently endorse; She inspires me to pursue and cultivate my own passions; She’s a God-sent friend.
The more I continue to explore the LowCountry and the more I spend time with the people I treasure, I’m slowly learning to call this place “home.” Nothing will be able to compare with the memories of growing up with my family in Maryland, but the South is slowly rooting itself into the identity of who I am.
I feel as if I’ve shared these candles with everyone I’ve talked to recently but I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful brand. Sure, my opinion may be completely biased but the words hand-poured, local, essential oils, soy candle and 100% natural together just sound like an incredible candle.
Community: Salt & Shore is partnered with the Save the Manatee organization. Read more about Electra the manatee and how you can help here.
I love how clean, simple and elegant the label/logo of the brand is. These candles effortlessly blend in perfectly with any space in my home and compliment my decor so well.
I’ve always struggled to find a consistent candle to double as a decorative piece as many companies use too many colors, labels or photos on their product and I usually end up having to store the candle away when it’s not lit.
I could go on and on for ages about why I think every household should have at least one Salt & Shore candle. If you live in the local area of Hilton Head, Bluffton or Savannah, here’s a list of places you can find Salt & Shore.
I am so thankful for the friend I’ve found in Mandy. Not only is she supportive and a great leader but she’s also kind.
“In a world where you can be anything, be kind”
So often do I forget how much a single act of kindness no matter how big or small can make an everlasting impact on someone around you.
In the hurried schedule of every day life, take a moment to show someone their existence is valued. Being kind doesn’t necessarily mean a grand, big gesture but could be something as simple as a genuine “thank you” – “thank you for everything you do.”
There’s no harm in going out of your way to be kind.
I am so grateful for her example of what it means to be a good friend. Through watching her create her own opportunity for success and overcome unexpected challenges, I’ve learned to continue the pursuit of my passions and values regardless of what others may say.
“To be thankful and to be inspired” is my own way to set aside time to reflect on those I appreciate and to thank them for their positive impact on my life. I’m hoping that by sharing those who have inspired me to chase my passions, I’m able to inspire those still waiting for their inspiration. I love being able to celebrate and being able to shine the spotlight on those I hold dear to me. I’m already looking forward to writing my next appreciation post and hope this will encourage you to thank a friend or mentor who has inspired you in some way.
Mandy, thank you for everything: your friendship and for all that you continue to do. I am so proud of you and am so glad to be able to cheer you on!
